Corsair

This is what happens when you take a little off the top of Bard and Ranger and slap them together. This is one of the most complex job you can play. Part Support, Part Damage Dealer, a very odd combination. I love this job purely for the fun factor. Pirates, Guns with many different abilities to boost you and your party. Many of the rolls are quite strong now (after they increased the bonuses.) and unbelievable when using a roll with that job in the party.

As nice as Corsair's Utility is, the Damage Dealing Portion is a bit difficult to execute off effectively. For starters, Your party invited you primarly for the buffs, that's it. Sadly enough many could care less of your Damage Dealing capabilities (which disgusts me greatly). The perfect execution of number of rolls is 4. However, it is acceptable and effective to just use 3 (Evoker's for Mages and 2 Melee Buffs), allowing you to put some shots/hits in between rolls. Also, there is the Gun's Delay. Corsair's greatest damage is all in the ranged attacks from guns.

Unfortunately SE (what the hell was they thinking?) left Corsair out on the better guns and ammuntion (gave us Steel bullets but costly to make and you have to be a high level alchemist to aquire them, none sale in Auction house!). Gun Delay is very high (600) and pulling as Cor is tough (most try using peacemaker but the thought is nausiating) but you can get around this by pulling ahead of time while party still fights, kinda like how a bard pulls in merit parties. To be both an effective support and damage dealer you need to keep this in mind, build it as if you was gearing ranger to the best of your ability. I suggest not leveling this job until you put at least 3 merits into marksmanship (6 would be extremely helpful) and to level Ranger to 37 for a subjob. Ranger is hands down the best sub for Corsair. It gives you the much needed accuracy bonus for your Corsair's low ranged accuracy due to low skill level, barrage, and widescan which helps alot if you are pulling. Ninja is another acceptable subjob, though will not be as beneficial to your ranged ability (more suitable if you are expected to be puller).

Do not, I say again, Do not sub White Mage under any circumstances. This is a bloody crusafix on the job's mechanics. It is acceptable for Bard to sub White Mage due to the fact it has little chance at Damage Dealing capabilities and does not have the time to do so. Subbing White Mage to Corsair means you have to sacrifice Damage Dealing completely, making room for +MP gear since you get very deplorable MP pool. If you think a party needs a Corsair to sub White Mage as backup to help out curatively then that party is not worthy to have you in the first place. I find that these Corsair / White Mages (and scowl them) do so just to be lazy and/or cheap (not have to spend gil on bullets and expensive range gear).

In any case this is my "Fun Job", I love it for both the business of the job, the vast options it gives you and the simple fact IT'S A PIRATE!~
